“Mad Mike Hughes” A Flat Earther

His plans to launch himself into space in homemade steam rocket nearly as far-fetched as what he is trying to prove. by Jack P. Mike Hughes, nicknamed “Mad Mike Hughes," is one of the US’s several resident flat-Earthers. He plans to launch himself into space using a homemade steam powered rocket that scientists only predict will be able to travel up to 500 mph and less than 2,000 feet high. Much less the 24,000 feet per second needed to reach even low orbit. A Boeing 747 flies higher than Hughes rocket. Mike Hughes with one of his test rockets Hughes believe that the Earth is flat and that all science is fake or false and it’s all a cover up by the people that “secretly control the world," h e explains in several of his youtube videos. One anonymous youtuber in the comment section of one of Hughes's videos commented “Just walk off the end of the world!” Mrs. Gianinno, a sixth-grade science teacher, expressed her concerns about Hughes, his mental health

Is McDonald's The Best Ever?

By Eliot P. and Andy P. There are positive opinions about McDonald's from different people, but too much McDonald's is not healthy. It can really hurt your diet. Meals for some people can contain thousands of calories. I suggest that you don't go or only go once in awhile. But that doesn't stop many people from eating there, such as Miles O'Neill. One quote from Miles O'Neill about McDonald's that clearly shows he likes it is, “I like the 30 piece chicken nugget. And I also like a large fry. And I also like my two drinks the McFlurry and the medium soda. And I also like the Big Mac and the Jumbo Mac.” And we also heard a little bit from Scott Campbell. This is what he had to say: “My favorite meal at McDonald's is french fries and chicken fingers.” He also said it was very good and that he would definitely go back. Lots of people like McDonald's but lots of people avoid it and think it's gross. In my opinion, I love McDonald's

Riverdale Review

by Jason O. Riverdale is a very popular and an amazing show. Riverdale is a show about a twin named Jason who mysteriously died. This town is affected by Jason’s death. They are affected because so many kids were close or good friends with him. His good friends try to get justice for Jason. What I like about this show is that it leaves you thinking. You get to solve the mystery with the characters in the show. You also get to take sides and “cheer” for your favorite character. My favorite character is Veronica because I think she has a lot of common sense. He is such a good friend to Archie and to Betty and to everyone else even when she has a lot of stuff going on at her house. I think that Betty’s dad killed him because there is a lot of evidence of him missing while important things happen. For example, all of Kevin’s dad’s wall of evidence mysteriously got destroyed while Betty’s dad wasn’t there. Another example is when Betty asked her dad if he killed Jason he was very quiet

MA vs. AZ

By: Ryder G. I am a new 6th-grade student at Village School, and I have recently moved from Phoenix, Arizona.  Everyone has treated me well. but I wondered what they thought about the differences between Phoenix and Boston. Without a doubt, the biggest difference was the climate. Arizona could get up to 120 degrees if you are in the right place in the summer, and there is snow in Boston in the winter.  I asked a few of my fellow students what they thought about it being so hot in Arizona compared to the freezing cold in Massachusetts. Taylor brought up an interesting point I hadn't thought about; she said that she would prefer the heat because I had shared before that my school was based outside with no halls, she said it was probably nice to get some fresh air once in awhile. What I heard next shocked me; I like the cold, but I didn't expect everyone interviewed to say that they like the cold better than the heat. Even my own sister, who had grown up in warm climates

The Movie Wonder Was Made Well

By: Lexi Fisichelli Wonder is a movie about a boy who has never looked ordinary since the day he was born. His mom has homeschooled him for his entire life. When his parents tell him that he is going to start middle school at a real school, he freaks out. They had to leave some things out of the movie that were kind of important in the book. One important thing they left out was how Auggie got a hearing aid. I think that the book was good because you could really use your imagination, but they both did very well. At Village School in Marblehead MA, every fourth grader reads the book, Wonder . Then last month, the movie Wonder came out. Samantha Roman, a sixth grader at the village school, has read the book and seen the movie. “I like the movie I thought they did good with it,” said Roman. She said that she liked how the book had sections with a different character's perspective every time. She also said that personally, she likes to read the book first then

New Student Comes To The Team BG6

by Jake B.   Two weeks ago, two new students came to the Village School from Arizona: Ryder and Seren G. Ryder is on team BG6 and Seren is in fourth grade with Mrs. Welsh. Ryder G. said, “I don’t like the heat in Arizona.” He also said, “the teams on each classroom are different from Arizona.”    Ryder said that the people in Arizona are not very different from in Boston.  In comparison, he said, Arizona is an 8 out of ten. Boston is an 9 out of ten. Ryder said that the Marblehead school curriculum  is not very different from the Arizona school curriculum, but having two different teachers is different from his old school.

Hanukkah: a different holiday, just as fun!

by Maddie C. Some people think it’s almost the same as Christmas. Looking at the facts, not really. Christmas is celebrated for one day but Hanukkah is celebrated over eight days, starting this year on Tuesday, December 12th and ends on Wednesday, December 20th. Also, they have very differently themed food. “My favorite food is latkes,” Rachael says. Latkes are potato pancakes that are perhaps best known as traditional Hanukkah food. Made with potatoes, onion and matzah or breadcrumbs, these crispy treats symbolize the miracle of Hanukkah because they are fried in oil. “I like lighting the candles,” Rachael says,” Most people would probably say presents.” Over the eight days, each day you light a candle on the menorah. They light the eight candles on the menorah because of the miracle of when the Seleucid forces destroyed the Temple by extinguishing the eternal light. This was really important at the time and people were shocked at what they did. When the Maccabees ga

Village Teacher Moving To LA!

School In Pain! By Harrison B. Mr. Glabicky, know at the school as “Mr. G,” has announced his decision to move to Los Angeles this summer. Mr. G, loved by fellow teachers and students who have formed such a great relationship with the assistant teacher. And it’s no surprise, too; with his friendly attitude and warm smile, Mr. G is one of the most fun teachers around. Mr. Glabicky has been planning this move for a long time. He has been studying music production at school and thinks that there is no better place to start his career than the big city of the west coast, LA. During an interview  he has said, “I’m ready, but I’ve also had a lot a lot of good times here, especially working here [Village School].” He also said he is very excited about the move this summer. Although Mr. G has not ever been too far from home, he does have a friend coming along with him. It’ll be a fun adventure driving across the country, moving away to the beautiful west coast. When asked, he ha

Village school Chorus concert

By Peyton D. and Nathan B. The chorus was held on Monday, December 18th at Veterans Middle school from 6:30-7:30. The fourth, fifth and sixth-grade chorus members, their parents and all the music teachers were at the concert. A chorus member, Peyton Downey, said, ‘‘It took the 6th grade a couple of months to perfect their songs, Honerot Halalu and Holiday Celebrations. It was fun to perform all our songs all together.’’ Each grade performed two songs and the whole group sang one together. At the end of the concert, there was a holiday sing-along for everyone to sing. The sixth-grade members sang Honerot Halalu and Holiday Celebrations and all the three grades together sang Mrs. Claus .

Uncle loses legs in Iraq war

By Ruby C. Josh Bleill, my uncle, was a marine and fought in the Iraq war. Sadly, as he was fighting, he lost his legs. Josh’s inspiration to join the Marines was his dad and grandfather, who were both in the war. Also after 9/11, he wanted to fight to prevent that from happening again. When Josh Bleill was fighting in the marines, his perspective on the Iraq war was, “It was hard to see people live when there were so many bombs and guns.” He had to go into other people’s houses without them wanting him to be in their house. They were sort of like policemen. Josh lost his legs when he was in a Humvee and a bomb was planted in the road. So when they drove over the bomb, it blew up under him. Josh and three other people were in the car as the bomb blew up. Josh ended up in the hospital for twenty-two months after his accident. Josh said, "In the hospital, it was a long time away from home. It felt good to be alive in the hospital with Timmy, who was another friend o

What is it like to be a Long Term Substitute?

By: Jack B. This year Ms. Harris took over for a fourth-grade teacher and is a long-term sub for fourth grade.  In October, Ms. Sweet went out and Ms. Harris came in as a long-term substitute. I asked her about being a long-term sub and how she started teaching and other questions. She said, “It is weird starting in a new class because I feel weird when I start anything new.” I went on and asked her about how she started teaching and she said that both of her parents were teachers and she thought that it would be fun working with kids. She also said that she started at Village School and that she wanted to teach for the rest of her life. She also said she would like to work with kids for the rest of her life if she couldn’t teach anymore. She said that teaching is her favorite job in the world and it would be fantastic to teach for the rest of her career.

Elf On The Shelf

By Cassidy L. The Elf on a Shelf is an elf that helps Santa watch families so that everyone is being good. He reports back if anyone is bad. Everyone's elf is different; for instance, my elf is a stuffed animal and Lucia’s elf and Madison’s elves are dolls. I interviewed Lucia, and she told me all about her elf. For instance, her elf is named Elfie, and Elfie likes to do crazy things. Once Elfie used flour to make a snow angel. I also interviewed Madison, and she told me that her elf's name is also Elfie, but Madison’s elf is calm. I interviewed my elf, Jolly, and she told me all about her life as an elf. Jolly told me it takes a long time to get to my house because she lives far, far away, “It is a lot of work making toys for the good kids; when I move, I stay the way I appear to you. I love coming to visit you.” Finally, I asked my elf what her favorite thing was about the holidays, and she said “Spreading joy to families.”

Islanders U12 Team participates in CAN/AM International Tournament

by Madison T. The Can/Am Hockey Tournament takes place every year in Lake Placid NY, teams from all around North America come to Lake Placid to participate. “ The reason we do tournaments like this is to give the team an opportunity to play challenging teams from other parts of North America,” Sue Twombly, U12 Islanders Mj. 2 team manager says. And indeed we did. The Islanders lost their first 1-6 against the Clarington Flames, from Ontario. The Clarington Flames played a whole different game against us than we’re used to. I mean they are Canadians after all, it’s in their blood right? The whole game they were pushing and shoving, knocking us down and taking slap shots straight at us, boy were they good… and mean. We didn’t lose every game, we beat one team, the Flameboro Falcons, who were also from Ontario, The first time we played them we beat them 6-4, it was a pretty good game, we played really well throughout. The next game we were playing our rivals, the Minuteman Lady
