Uncle loses legs in Iraq war

By Ruby C.

Josh Bleill, my uncle, was a marine and fought in the Iraq war. Sadly, as he was fighting, he lost his legs.
Josh’s inspiration to join the Marines was his dad and grandfather, who were both in the war. Also after 9/11, he wanted to fight to prevent that from happening again.
When Josh Bleill was fighting in the marines, his perspective on the Iraq war was, “It was hard to see people live when there were so many bombs and guns.” He had to go into other people’s houses without them wanting him to be in their house. They were sort of like policemen.
Josh lost his legs when he was in a Humvee and a bomb was planted in the road. So when they drove over the bomb, it blew up under him. Josh and three other people were in the car as the bomb blew up. Josh ended up in the hospital for twenty-two months after his accident.
Josh said, "In the hospital, it was a long time away from home. It felt good to be alive in the hospital with Timmy, who was another friend of mine who was also in the car. Timmy had only lost one of his legs in the explosion. Also, making new friends in the hospital." The other two people from the Humvee passed away.
He told me it was wonderful coming home and great to see his family. Also, he had to learn to adapt to having prosthetics.  Today, he lives in Indiana, has two kids and a wife and a cat and a dog, and he does speeches for people all over the world. My family sees him almost every two months.

Bretton Woods Club: Pros and Cons

By Sophia H. Last weekend, I went to the Bretton Woods Club (BWC) and interviewed 6th grader Madeline Jacobson from Maine about the BWC: the pros and the cons plus some of the perks of being a member or guest. She had many pros and very few cons. Ms. Jacobson said, “One of the reasons I like the BWC is because there are enough people that its very friendly, but not enough to have it too crowded.” Another reason that she said that she liked it was because the staff are very kind to everyone. She did have many pros, but nothing is perfect. Although the BWC is nice, it does have its cons. One: “There is one chef so sometimes you might have to wait a little longer to get your desired food.” Two, she reports that it's not like you would just go to Bretton Woods just to sit in a lodge, when you could be skiing or snowboarding so it's fine that the BWC is not huge. But when you want to climb the rock wall or have a larger option of food you have to walk to the main lodge. ...

But it’s all coming to an end (at least, the video part of the store). On March 31, 2018 the doors of Chet’s videos will be closed for good. Thank you so much to Chet Strout for dedicating your time to Chet’s Video & Candy Shoppe. We all know that it will be hard to say goodbye to something we’ve known and loved for so long.
